In Punjab, cotton fetches more in open market than its MSP

Facing successive pest attacks, the surviving cotton crop has opened on a promising note in Punjab this year. The new cotton crop has started reaching mandis, though at a slow pace, and is fetching over Rs 9,500 per quintal against the minimum support price (MSP) of Rs 6,280 per quintal for the 27.5-28.5MM staple variety.
